Mae Benton is a character on the NBC series, ER. She was the mother of Dr. Peter Benton and Jackie Robbins.
She was portrayed by Beah Richards.
History[]
In the 1st season episode, 9½ Hours, Mae is brought into County General ER by her son-in-law, Walt due to a sprained ankle and is revealed to have previously suffered from a stroke. She invites John Carter to spend Thanksgiving dinner with her family.
Peter and Jackie clash over caring for Mae. While Jackie wants to place her in a nursing home, Peter wants to keep her at home.
In Luck of the Draw, it is revealed that Peter hired an elderly caretaker to look after Mae, but Mae wanders off from her, prompting Peter to leave work to search for her. Mae is eventually found sitting at an outdoor ice rink and tells Peter that she doesn't want to go to a nursing home.
Peter hires physical therapist Jeanie Boulet to be Mae's new caretaker despite Jackie wanting her to be placed in a nursing home.
In Sleepless in Chicago, Mae suffers from a broken hip when Peter falls asleep while watching her. She is later taken to County General where she undergoes surgery. After recovering from her surgery, Mae is ultimately placed in a nursing home.
On Mother's Day, it is revealed that Mae died from a heart attack.
