  • In this episode, Gloria Reuben makes her first appearance as Jeanie Boulet. She would be a recurring guest star throughout the rest of the season and into the next, before joining the main cast as a regular in the Season 2 episode "Days Like This".

  • The title of this episode is a reference to Eugene O'Neill's autobiographical play Long Day's Journey into Night. Written in 1940 but published posthumously in 1956, it concerns a family that finds it difficult to live in the present, and whose existence is mired in the dark recesses of a bitter and troubled past.
