LaVerne is a small town in the state of Mississippi. It was visited by Peter Benton in 1999, who worked there for several weeks to earn some extra money.

LaVerne was a small, characteristic Deep South community. Its medical provisions were scarce, reduced to a local clinic staffed by Maureen Chapman, a nun working as a nurse practitioner. Its geography included a tiny local town with some shops and the aforementioned clinic, some vast croplands and a murky swamp patrolled by the racist Ebee family.
