"Going Home" is the third episode of the first season of ER.

Synopsis[]

Carol Hathaway returns to work after her suicide attempt. Doug Ross still feels guilty about what happened. An ER patient found walking the streets takes to singing, constantly. Susan Lewis has a run-in with the cardiologist on duty, Dr. Kayson when he disagrees with her treatment of a heart attack victim. At a case review session, she gets very little support from her colleagues. She also treats a woman who is dying of leukemia and who has good advice for Hathaway. Greene treats a woman who has obviously been beaten by her husband but can't get to agree to get help.

NBC Description[]

NURSE HATHAWAY RETURNS: Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) returns to work upon recovering from her suicide attempt. The staff greets her with a surprise "Welcome Back" party. Greene treats a domestic violence victim.

Lewis goes on the defensive after a cardiac case goes awry. Benton (Eriq LaSalle) is shadowed by a patient singing show tunes.

  • This episode has an early scene that is similar to how "24 Hours", "Day One", and "Hit and Run" begin, with one of the main cast members being awakened in Exam 8 at the end of the hallway. In this episode, Peter Benton is woken up by "Madame X," portrayed by Rosemary Clooney.
  • Rick Rossovich guest stars as  Dr John "Tag" Taglieri, Rossovich is best known for starring alongside Anthony Edwards in Top Gun as LTJG Ron "Slider" Kerner.
